How to be a killer 101.


What a cracker day to be alive hey.

I spent the weekend working & catching up with family to celebrate Father’s Day (as I hope you did too). #wholesomefamilymanmicko

Sometimes, you just need to hear words of wisdom from Nan.

She can’t answer all the questions I have running amuck in my head (weird questions) – but somehow seems to add the 1000 years of life experience she has to each conversation.

Sometimes, you just need your Nans advice.

Got this cracker yesterday,

‘You’ve got brains in your head, and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself  in any direction you choose’

(Turns out that after a quick google, this is Dr. Seuss’s advice, but I’ll keep it as Dr. Nans.)

I woke up to the sounds of birds this morning (crows), sharing with me the song of their people.

If I’m completely honest, I really didn’t want to get up.

Sleeping in your jocks has the ultimate advantage of being super comfortable, being able to slide one leg out from under the blankets to cool your foot down AND not getting suffocated by your shirt when your rollover in bed.

It also has the downside of making it extremely hard to get out of bed when it’s cold.

Dr. Nans words rang in my ears

So I chose to get up

I got down to the gym.

I was meant to have a ‘light session’ before getting into the work day and kicking some ass.

Here I was, getting in, warming up, getting some warm up sets done – when suddenly, inspiration hit me like a fucking bolt of lightening.

Came out of nowhere and lit me the fuck up.

(maybe it was the triple shot coffee I had on the way down to the gym too)

I thought of all my clients, how HARD you all work.

Kahlya, quits smoking, drinking & is on the path to making her health a priority.

Cam, down 25kg and putting in the effort to lose more every damn session.

Sam, down nearly 15kg and stronger than ever.

Al-dawgz, pushing through personal hurdles to make her life the best it can possibly be.

Just a sample of some of the absolute killers I see on a daily basis.

And here I am, planning on having a ‘light’ session.

Not a fucking chance.

Quick shoutout to all the killers I work with you are striving every day to be better than they were yesterday – y’all are the real MVPs.

Killer Mode: Engaged.

Probably one of my better sessions this year.

The beauty of it all?

It was all a choice.

I chose to have a huge session. My body didn’t really want me to even get out of bed this morning, let alone exert as much physical effort as I could into lifting something up just to put it back down again.

I will go on to choose to have a killer day.

As can you.

If no-one has told you recently, ‘You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.’

So, choose wisely.

Because the choices you make will form the habits you serve.

The habits you serve will dictate what direction your life takes.

If you tell yourself you’re too tired to workout, you probably will be.

If you tell yourself, despite how tired you are, that you’re ready to challenge yourself to be better, you probably will be.

It is through choosing to do the things that are in the opposite direction of our own comfort that we grow, we develop and we become the people we aim to be.

The Rock didn’t become the fucking rock by sitting on the couch after a long day.

Steve Jobs didn’t revolutionise the world by saying, ‘That’s enough for today’

MLK didn’t become MLK by allowing himself the comfort of sitting back.

Becoming is better than being.

You don’t have to be the ultimate version of what you want to become to make a start on becoming it.

If you have someone in your life who motivates you, chances are, they started right where you are.

Square 1.

No fitness model started with doing ballistic workouts.

No nutrition guru started with an in depth understanding of food.

No great speaker started without some delivering some shit speeches.

No great emailer started without sending some shit ones (hello)

It doesn’t work that way.

‘You don’t have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great.’

If you have something you want in life that is valuable to you, that is hard to obtain or hard to achieve – Just. Fucking. Start.

You want to start a podcast?

Amazing. It’s probably going to be shit to start. Keep trying, keep learning and you will get better. Start.

You want to find a job you love?

Amazing. It’s probably going to be shit & hard to start. Keep trying, keep learning and you will be better. Start.

You want to be more confident in yourself?

Fuck yeah. Give yourself a reason to be. Look for areas you can be better in and work hard at them. It’s probably going to be hard to start. Start.

To achieve what you want in life, you will need to become the person who deserves it.

You want a 6 figure salary? You’d better put in the time, dedication & effort it takes to get it.

You deserve whatever you choose you do.
