The Happy Monday Mindset #22

Chicken boobs, productivity & progress.

Happy Monday to you all!

I hope you all had as killer a weekend as I did.

Firstly, my partner got back into Aus, so that’s nice.

Far to many beers followed by run and DIET cokes, so that was nice.

(Side bar: the fact that diet coke/coke zero/pepsi max isnt the standard fucking BLOWS my mind. It’s far superior in terms of affect on health markers through consumption than the standard. If you enjoy soft drink – get the artificially sweetened version. Cmon. Get on my level. It’s the same taste, without the sugar. Huge.)

Woke up with a head that weighed 400kgs and a splitting headache, not so nice.

Managed to make it through the day, and now I’m writing this email on a PC using a wireless apple keyboard.

Mans fucking mad.

Wireless is just such a better life.

Cords can suck a phat one.

Honestly, it just makes life better.

Wireless headphones, get on them.

Wireless chargers, get on it.

Wireless keyboards, you know it.

Wireless connection devices like a chromecast, fuckin yassss.

I LOVE investing in small things that make my life more convenient. It just makes shit easier, so I can handle more.

Sounds silly, I get it – but seriously.

You can buy chicken breasts in coles for $9 a kilo.

You can also buy already diced chicken breast in coles for $10 a kilo.

I will pay $1 to not have to handle chicken boobs all day, every. dang. Day.

Actually, if I would pay an extra $1 to upgrade my medium Mcshit meal to a large, I can 100% spend the extra $ on pre prepped real foods.

Plus, it speeds up my meal prep – something I value highly too. (But I mostly do it so I don’t have to touch the chicken – I’m sure no one likes too. If you do, there are some issues going on here)

This is 2019 folks, get on it.

I’ve been coaching people for a long while now in all differing capacities.

Online only, exercise programming, nutritional programming, in person PT & nutrition.

It’s amazing to see the progress that people can and do make when they give themselves the time, energy & dedication that is required for the change they desire.

“People often overestimate what they can achieve in a month, but underestimate what they can achieve in a year”

It’s too fucking true.

We live in an age of instant gratification.

For fucks sake, you can sit down on your phone, order a stuffed hawk, a series of books & a banana and amazon will fart it out to you this afternoon.

We all want things NOW, because we live in a world that thrives off providing people the useless shit they want – yesterday.

However, these people that have worked with me for some time that are fucking KILLING it are all killing it because they follow the age old advice,

Progress > Perfection.

Read that again please.

No one who is killing it started by killing it.

Everyone was shit to start with. I have been absolutely shitehouse at everything I now consider myself to be decent at.

Lifting? Shithouse.

Writing emails? Horrible.

Counting calories? Jesus don’t even.

Singing? Still shite house.

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great”

(banger of a quote)

IF you’ve been working for some time and are in a career that you are doing well in, think about your first day, month, year.

I bet you were shitting yourself.

I see too many people aiming to be perfect straight away, and if they aren’t they throw it out the window.

“I’ll start going to gym next week, going to get 5 sessions in a week until im shredded.”

Excuse me??

That’s the working equivalent of, “Alright, I graduated with my Bachelors of Law, I won’t start work until I’m partner”

We can’t be chasing the end goal like it’s going to happen immediately, you haven’t done the work to deserve that yet.

Start by chasing some progress.

If you aren’t doing any physical activity at all, anything will be progress. Just start.

Don’t put the pressure of going from 0 to 100 on yourself. That will only lead to total burn out. You need to warm yourself up to this shit.

If you are eating like shit, start to curve it with adding my of the shit you know you should eat (vegetables & protein ya muppet).

Aim for progress, not perfection.

In my humble opinion, it’s much better to look for slow, long term improvements that don’t greatly affect your quality of life.

I.E. Gym twice a week for a year whilst maintaining a reasonable calorie deficit. Takes maybe 2h a week & can still enjoy life through food.

Rather than taking huge drastic action that disrupt your quality of life greatly & are not sustainable long term.

I.E. Gym 6 times a week, eat in a hugely restrictive diet (poverty calories). Takes a lot of time & restricts much of social activities due to massive restriction.

In most cases, the first option will allow the person to enjoy their life, and see the results they want over the long term.

The second option will be held for 6 – 12 weeks before a fucking mental breakdown of apocolopitc proprtions followed by a splurge that could feed a fucking third world country.

Arriving back at square 1, or possibly even further behind.

Progress > Perfection.

1% better every day = 38% increase in being better over a year.

0% better every day = fucking nothing you Muppet.

I know I’ve used this before, but it’s too good so suck it 🙂

I’ll take the small gains.

It might be;

  • No Chocolate at work this week
  • No Coffees after 3pm this week
  • Get to bed early each night (who tf doesn’t want sleep, get off netflix and get into sleepfix)
  • 1 extra walk/gym session this week
  • Hit the fucking 10,000 steps a day each day.

It doesn’t have to be huge, it doesn’t have to be perfect but it does need to be SOMETHING.

It just needs to be a little better than yesterday.

You can do this.

Whatever it is you desire (weight loss, muscle gain, confidence, a better outlook on life, smiling more, stressing less) – you. Can. do. It.

I have so many wonderful clients who are fucking killing it becuase they aren’t looking for the instant gratification. They understand that this is for the rest of their lives. They are chasing self-development every. Damn. day.

And so can you.

‘But Michael, I have to lose 10kg’
